Since fibromyalgia affects about 5% percent of the population, it shouldn’t be a surprise to learn that a large number of celebrities suffer with fibromyalgia. Here are a few that you probably know.
An extremely popular film actor, Mr. Freeman, has starred in numerous movies, such as The Shawshank Redemption and Driving Miss Daisy. In a 2012 interview in Esquire magazine, Freeman revealed that he has fibromyalgia.
After experiencing a car accident, Morgan Freeman started experiencing excruciating pain in his arm. He has learned to live with fibromyalgia however, making the best of the situation and will even play golf with one hand.
You may recognize Susan Flannery from The Bold and the Beautiful in which she plays the tough Stephanie Forrester. She has been on the show since 1987 but had to leave the show for a brief period in 2007 due to the condition.
Since then she has returned to her role and she says she treats the condition on a day-to-day basis.
The Irish rockstar had to step away from her career in 2003 because she suffered from fibromyalgia.
It took her two years to get a handle on things but she returned saying, “fibromyalgia is not curable. But it’s manageable. You get to know your patterns and limits, so you can work and plan around it.”
She recognizes that she is not perfect and works within her limits.
An actress and comedian she has been in many movies as well as on TV.
She was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and instead of letting it get her down she saw the humor in life and just carried on.
When she joked about going to the doctor to get medication to help her out she said, “A doctor prescribed an antidepressant to treat my fibromyalgia and I had no idea I was chronically dissatisfied.”
You may know her as the lead singer of Rosie and the Originals. She was one of the greatest singers around in the 60’s.
She had many battles in her life but nothing that compared to having to battle fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia Aware Magazine put Rosie on the cover in 2004 and she discussed how she has dealt with the condition and what she does to overcome it.
